Children’s Autumn/Winter Essentials
Written By: Guest Blogger
As the cold months roll in and you see the last warmth of summer really start to dwindle, the auburn leaves on the trees remind you that it’s time to pack up the summer wear and start thinking about wrapping up warm.
If you’ve got little ones in the house, there really is a lot to think about when it comes to autumn/winter clothing. There are some essentials that every baby, child and pre-teen needs to make sure they are warm and comfortable in the winter months. If you have a lot to think about and are a very busy parent, you may be worried you are forgetting something important; the best thing to do is to sit down and make a list of all the winter garments you think your family will need.
Then check it against the list below and fill in the gaps, once you have your list refined and complete there really should be nothing more to worry about.
- Hats, scarves and gloves – These are the big three winter staples every parent thinks of. But if you have fussy children, try to keep an eye as to if they are removing these items at any point. A hat is especially important as the head is the most exposed part of the body; this is specific to all children even babies. Mitten minders are great if you have a particularly forgetful child and if you can get your hands on a fabric and design your child enjoys, they will be less likely to misplace them.
- Layers – Layering clothes is important to keep you child warm, the air between the layers acts as insulation and the best fabrics for layering up are fleeces and wool’s.
- Pyjamas – Think about your children in the house as well as out. You may have unpacked all of the winter clothes and flannelette pyjamas may be the bulk of the hoard. This is great for a large family as with things like pyjamas, hand-me-downs are common. If your older children look like they are a little thin on the ground though, it may be best to go out and buy some quality nightwear that at some point can be handed down itself. Don’t forget about slippers and robes for in the house too.
- Waterproof – A really good waterproof is essential to any child in the colder months. They tend to be outside a lot more often than adults and the more stubborn children will not retire from their play even if they are cold and wet. To combat this, give your child a really quality waterproof that will keep them dry through rain snow and sleet.
