I spent Valentine’s Day with my two loves, Anneliese and Jonathan. It was not relaxing or crazy fun like many of the previous years. I still had a destructive toddler running around, making messes and getting an attitude when she did not get her way. I also had a husband to care for and a website to work on, but I had a wonderful day enjoying both of my Valentines anyway.
For breakfast, I made waffles using blueberries or cherries with whipped cream to make smiley faces. It was delicious, fun and simple.
Then, Anneliese and I did a toddler- safe Valentine craft. I cut a variety of tissue paper into one inch squares which we wadded up and stuck around a pink foam heart. Now I just need to print off the Valentine’s Day photo of Anneliese to glue in the center and it will be a great keepsake for my baby’s second Valentine’s Day.
Later that afternoon, my sweet husband took me out for dinner early so we could beat the crowds. Then he took me shopping! We had so much fun goofing off together while the grandparents took care of our baby.
Overall, I spent a wonderful day with my two favorite people. Although it was not the most relaxing day and I still had to do some work, I am very thankful for the joyful time spent with my family. Thanks to my sweet husband for giving me a fun date night.
Last year, when everyone was ringing in the year 2011, I was sleeping. My 5 month old baby was sleeping 6-7 hours a night at the time and I would not miss an opportunity to get a somewhat decent night’s rest. I did make a resolution for the year 2011- I wanted to lose all of the baby weight that I had gained from my pregnancy by the next New Year.
That time has come, and…I failed. I did lose some weight and I slimmed down to an acceptable size for myself. Doing Dustin Maher’s BabyTone fitness DVDs really helped, but I only began those in November. So, like almost everyone else in the U.S., I am setting another weight loss / exercise goal for this New Year of 2012. I have resolved to:
1. Lose 5-10 pounds while gaining muscle mass.
2. Establish a healthy exercise routine and stick with it.
3. Incorporate the life changes that Dustin talks about in his book Fit Moms for Life.
4. Be more involved in my local church.
5. Be a blessing to everyone I meet.
Overall, I want to be healthy and happy while making everyone around me happy to have met me. If you want to live a healthier life this year, don’t forget to enter in my giveaway for Dustin Maher’s new book Fit Moms fore Life: How To Have Endless Energy to Outplay Your Kids. I have set resolutions to abide by during the year of 2012, hopefully with a positive report for next year.
Maybe I will actually stay up next year, since I didn’t this year or last. We did have sparklers and roman candles that we lit at 8 pm so Anneliese could enjoy them before she went to bed. She ran around the back yard squealing and had a grand time watching our measly fireworks display. I bought ginger ale and apple juice to mix together and drink when ringing in the New Year, but saved it for New Year’s Day to go with our ham, black-eyed peas and collard greens meal.
Hoping 2012 will be better than 2011! How were your New Year celebrations? Did you make any resolutions for 2012?
What is Christmas all about? I wouldn’t mind if I did not receive a single gift for Christmas. The most wonderful thing about Christmas is the joy that fills the air, the love that people show to one another, the gathering of family and friends who love you, and remembering that the LORD came down from heaven to take away the sins of the world.
This Christmas I have already been blessed from reading the stories of goodwill here in the U.S. and how people are coming together to help our less fortunate neighbors all across the country. Along with that, more soldiers will be home with their families this Christmas and I will be spending time with my family for Christmas.
Just remember, as you go about your Christmas holiday season, to enjoy your blessings and pass that joy along to others. Let’s have an entire nation of cheer and goodwill for Christmas this year. Also, don’t forget the One who is the perfect example of love and goodwill, whose birthday many people around the world will be celebrating.
Birth of Jesus Christ:
1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

I recently read the story of a lady who overcame cancer while caring for her newborn baby. It was such an inspiration to me, I am hoping it will be for you also. This lady is Heather Von St. James and she has written an amazing article summarizing her story.
